The Invisible “Man” Meets His Match: Mold and Moisture Technology for the 21st Century

Petaluma, CA - There is a new sheriff in town and his name Steve Ramos, AKA, The House Detective. Steve Ramos is the current Co-Host for Home and Garden Television’s (HGTV) House Detective program and has appeared in 65 episodes of the show. The show features a “detective” segment presented by Certified Home Inspection Expert, Steve Ramos. In each segment, Steve takes a homeowner on a tour of their own home and using the latest hi-tech gadgets shows the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Many times the ugly includes hidden moisture and mold.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency mold has potential health consequences that include; allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory ailments. For some, especially those with asthma, the very young, and the elderly, excessive mold exposure can have more serious consequences. “Mold is a serious concern for homeowners because of the impact on your health. Mold requires three components to flourish: a source of moisture, food, and warmth” says Ramos. The one controllable factor in the mold equation is moisture. And that is where Steve employs the use of the latest hi-tech tools to detect hidden moisture.

Ramos has dubbed this hidden moisture “the invisible man” because many times this moisture is not visible with the naked eye. Paints, interior finishes, and carpeting can trap moisture for extended periods of time and allow mold to flourish, potentially creating an unhealthy living environment. Fortunately there is new technology available that can see what our eyes can’t see.

One of the hottest new technologies is Infrared. Infrared cameras are mold’s kryptonite because they can be used by trained professional home inspectors to quickly sleuth out the sources of excessive moisture, mold requires a source of moisture to grow, if you stop the source of moisture, you stop the spread of mold. “ This new technology is revolutionizing the home inspection industry because it is empowering Home Inspectors to go beyond the traditional “visual” inspection and deliver additional services that will cripple mold’s ability to flourish, all the while, assisting in the maintenance of a healthy living environment” says Ramos. You can watch Steve battle the invisible “man” on the Home and Garden Television Network’s series, The House Detective.
