Staying of out of court and in front of clients

Staying out of court and in front of clients is most certainly high on your list of priorities. However, you may be asking yourself, how can mastery of the english language keep me out of court? Technically speaking, it is not your command of the english language that matters when it comes to building defect litigation, it is your home inspectors!

Building Code Wizard or Book Worm

Yes, it's true, it's not enough for a home inspector to be a building code wizard. In order for you to have truly happy clients and keep yourself out of court your home inspector needs to be an expert at transferring gray matter into well formed sentences that make sense to a fifth grader.

Some in my industry claim that clients can't have it all- quick turn around on reports and well written reports with clear photographs. I know different. Ain 't technology grand! Technology has put a man on the moon and it can keep you out of court.

Man on the moon and Report Writing Software

Report writing software is still in its infancy. Current technology does allow the home inspector to automate custom reports. That may sound like an oxymoron (automation and custom?) but it is a very accurate statement. A good parallel would be McDonald's "fast food". Up until McDonald's revolutionized the idea of fast food, the concept of consistent-predictable-quality (I know this is a matter of perception but people vote with their dollars and they have done well) was an oxymoron in their industry. Fast forward 25 + years, McDonald's is one of the most successful fast food franchises ever. Why, they used technology and process to ensure consistent-predictable-quality. Technology is being used by some forward thinking home inspectors to provide consistent-predictable-quality narrative statements that are designed to inform your client and keep you selling instead of telling.
